For today’s Monday with the Mouse I thought it would be fun to share about our first trips to Disney World.
How did you tell your kids?
Where did you stay?
What special memories were made?
Our first trip to Disney World in 1999, was planned a year in advance. We planned out our trip, how much it would cost, and divided it weekly so we could save that amount each week up till the day we left. That way it was ALL paid for.
We decided ahead of time NOT to tell our girls. Half way through that year, we moved into a new home. But my DH and I decided that we would NOT touch the Disney money and still took the trip with only being in our new place a couple months.
Here is where I could input a video. But I can’t because my video card won’t read my DVD (I’m working on getting that fixed). The reason being, because we didn’t tell our girls they were going till the MORNING OF our trip.
My DH is self employed and rarely takes off work. The night before, he told our girls he was taking the day off and for them to think of something fun to do. They were excited about having Dad at home, let alone thinking they would be going anywhere.
Our flight was early in the morning, so with video recorder in my hand, I followed my DH into their rooms. He gently woke them up and said
” Hey, I know what we can do today… Let’s go to Disney World!”
They were stunned. Sleepy, but stunned. My oldest, who was on the top bunk bed, looked right at me with the camera and said “Is he joking?” LOL.
Surprising them this way was great for so many reasons. One of them being that they had no time to think or get scared about flying for the first time.
There’s SO much to this story, but I’ll keep it short.
We stayed at the ALL Star Movies in the Toy Story part. We got to Florida by lunch time, eww and awed at the hotel, then took off for the Magic Kingdom.
