Homeschooling my two girls for over 11 years now has been such an amazing journey. It was something I never thought I would be capable of doing, but as we draw a little closer to the end, I realized that through Christ all things ARE possible – even homeschooling high schoolers.
We are at that point in our schooling where I’m helping them research and pray about what they would like to do for a career or life path. We have been praying for a LONG time, seeking what GOD desires for them to do, but we just recently started taking actual steps in finding what their gifts and talents are and how they can be used.
I was able to sit and read this great little E-Book called Career Exploration. The author, Carol Topp runs a home-based accounting practice which allowed her to stay home with her family. She has run various workshops geared toward teenagers and their Career Explorations, which she talks about in this book.
I enjoyed reading how she worked with students in not only finding what careers they would be good at, but also how she encourages them how to find who they are in Christ and how He created them to be – to use their skills and talents.
After reading this book I’m excited to sit down and put together my own class for my girls next year. I’m hoping to be able to gather enough information to hold a class for other teens at our homeschool co-op too.
Here is some more information about Career Explorations:
“At first Andrew didn’t want to take your Career Exploration class, but it turned out to be one of his favorites,” the enthusiastic mother told me.
How will you help your child discover what they will be best suited to do after they leave home? What are the most important things to consider when helping your child decide on a career?
