These little goodies have become my new favorite snack. I found this recipe while reviewing The Gluten-Free Vegan cookbook ( click here to read my review post )
I have to be REALLY careful not to eat a whole bunch at once. I know nuts are good for you, but I think the sweet maple syrup poured all over them knull and voids the ‘healthiness’ of them.
Maple Candied Nuts
via The Gluten Free Vegan cookbook
1 1/2 cups raw walnuts or pecans
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Preheat oven to 300’ F. Toss the nuts in the maple syrup. Meaning, pour the maple syrup over the nuts and stir to coat well.
Spread out the nuts as evenly as you can on a rimmed cookie sheet or jelly-roll pan. Roast at 300’ F until they are browned. Check half way through and stir them several times to keep them from burning.
The nuts should be ready to come out of the oven in 20 to 25 minutes.
Once they are cooled, place in an air tight container and keep them either at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
** The Not So Perfect Housewife hints:
I used my little toaster oven that has a convection bake for this and it worked great. I lined the pan with foil and sprayed it with oil so they wouldn’t stick. This made clean up A LOT easier.
I also sprayed the bowl that I was pouring the nuts and maple syrup in with oil spray FIRST so that the bowl would be easy to clean.
Enjoy these tasty treats!!
