Ok. First, let me share with you a little of why my family eats the way we do..
I was raised in a home where we ate A LOT of healthy stuff. It wasn’t always FUN, but now I understand why my mom limited the JUNK that came into our house.. she wanted us to be healthy. I never felt deprived and we got our ‘treats’ now and than, but food was actually made from scratch most of the time and was good for us.
After having my two girls, I realized I wanted to raise them the same way..I wanted to give them the gift of a HEALTHY lifestyle.
Over the years I’ve learned more and more of what it means to eat healthy, but I think it’s been over that last 5 years that I’ve REALLY gone beyond just staying away from certain foods. It’s sooo much more than that.
What we eat:
1. Organic as much as possible – that includes veggies and meats ( I consider us 90% veggie lovers & 10% meat eaters)
2. No artificial flavorings and ingredients – and my rules are simple
- if it changes the milk in your cereal a different color – NO
- if you can’t pronounce and have no idea what it is – NO
- If it’s abbreviated and or you don’t know what it is – NO ( MSG & BHT – NO!)
3. Local if possible – though in Florida that is hard, at least where we are.. there’s not a lot of organic local food available
there’s probably a few others, but you get the gist..
Now, Documentaries like Food Inc., Food Matters, and Hungry for Change have been very eye opening for us. We’ve learned so much of how our food is processed, what is added to it, what is taken away, and how this ALL effects out bodies.
One day I was watching this video by Robyn O’Brien:
I was blow away by the information she shares about what our country ALLOWS into our foods and what other countries DO NOT allow.
Take the picture above..
The SAME… yes.. THE SAME fruit bar… in the US has a bunch of junk in it, but across the pond.. no artificial stuff!
There’s just sooo much out there concerning all of this, that I’m not even going to try and type it all out, but I just pray that you take a few minutes and research it.
Google MSG Mice and see what happens
Watch Dr. Oz and Dr. Furhman talk about how eating healthier will allow you to not only get off meds, but live a healthier and longer life.
Watch the films I mentioned above ( most are available on Netflix I think) and get informed
And lastly, from a Christian point of you.. I just sit in awe at how the more and more research I do.. the more and more I find that God has truly given us the amazing fruits, vegetables, and yes even meat at times, to live healthy and long.. the closer we get to the purer forms of His creation… the longer we get to live and be a healthy servant for Him.
Blessings to happy and healthy life..
