This morning my friend and I were out on our regular Friday morning walk, and .. as it usually does.. our topic of conversation turned to food.
Not because we like to eat a lot, but because both of us have certain food allergies, tastes, and or thoughts about the food we eat.
And as usual, we end up either laughing at our whole situation or grunting in frustration about how eating a healthy, non allergy inducing meal can be sometimes.
My dear, allergy engulfed friend, has also just recently found out that she is allergic to even MORE foods than her original list of non eatable foods, which in turn, doesn’t leave her with a whole lot of choices. It’s frustrating for her I know, but she does seem to find the humor in it sometimes.
High Maintenance Eater ~ Am I Vegan or Vegetarian or Plant Based?
For me, it’s a culmination of things..
Dairy/Lactose – Avoid as much as I can. My body DOES NOT like it when I eat this stuff
Gluten – don’t think I have a total intolerance for it, but I feel bloated and yucky when I eat it , so I stay away as much as I can
Veggies – YUMMY!! – my favorite. But organic please!!! I’m VERY VERY picky about my veggies being organic. That’s why I am LOVING our hydroponics. Organic, grown right in my backyard deliciousness!
Meat/Fish – Ok.. here’s were I get even pickier – Will I eat meat? Well, yes..sometimes.. but only if I know it’s organic or wild harvested and it’s not pork. I want to know where my food is coming from.. I don’t want to eat meat that was raised in a feed lot somewhere, fed a whole bunch of yucky stuff.
But it’s not something I feel bad about.
There are soooo many reasons I eat the way I do.. our country genetically modifies and chemically covers so much of our nations food it’s ridiculous.. and than we wonder why people are obese, sick, and so forth.. but that’s another blog post for another time.
For now, I guess I’m trying to decided if it’s important to figure out if I’m a vegan or vegetarian or plant based? I don’t know if I’m any of those. The jury is still out (though I think I’m leaning more towards plant based)
All I know, whether it makes me a High Maintenance eater or not, I feel healthy and happy knowing what I put in my body is healthy, whole, and organic.
