To be perfectly honest, I had NO idea who Mariano Rivera was. I’m not a big baseball fan, but I do enjoy reading about strong Christian athletes, so when I saw the preview for this book, I thought it would be a good opportunity to brush up on some baseball knowledge.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy reading about a sport I’m not all that interested in, but after reading Mariano’s story, I’m thinking an afternoon at the baseball field wouldn’t be so bad.
A young man from humble beginnings goes from wanting to be the next Pele in soccer to a global legend, Mariano Rivera is not only an amazing baseball player, he is even more an amazing Christian athlete.
Sitting and reading Mariano’s story, The Closer, was like having him right on my front porch. Written in a conversational type style, this book was easy to read and extremely interesting. His personality is immediately likeable and has you wanting to learn more about his story.
From a non-sports type reader, this was a really great book to read. Inspiring and encouraging.
