Yesterday afternoon was kind of a lazy day for me.
Came home from church, enjoyed a light lunch, and than I decided to just veg out on the couch and relax a little before the family came over for dinner.
There wasn’t much on TV, so I pulled up our Amazon Prime and started watching the Ken Burns: The National Parks – Americas Best Idea.
I LOVE this series. It’s a beautiful documentary on the history of how our National Parks came to be.
Two years ago, the hubster and I took our first ‘out west’ trip. We did a weeks mad dash from San Diego to Denver, hitting the Hoover Dam (another amazing American accomplishment), the Grand Canyon, The Arches National Park, and than ended in beautiful Denver, Colorado.
Before this trip, I had never really been brought to actual tears over God’s amazing creation. I mean to stand on the side of the Grand Canyon just leaves you speechless.
It was during this trip too that I really started appreciating what an achievement it was that our country DID NOT mess these things up.
Now I don’t mean that in a bashing way at all, but to just know that as a country we, well past Americans, understood what these beautiful pieces of land were and realized that something needed to be done to preserve them.
If you haven’t seen this series, I HIGHLY suggest watching it.
It makes for a great history lesson, vacation planner, and or just a good rainy day movie to watch.
