I often get asked why I am so passionate about eating organic food and or living a healthy lifestyle.
I first have to say that I wasn’t always this way.
I didn’t always read labels or do research about how my food was produced or made. I didn’t shop at farmers markets or go to specialty stores. It was a process that first started when I became a mom and than moved on from there.
Wanting the best for my family and than having some health issues of my own, I slowly started moving to a more natural, healthy lifestyle. I read books, articles, and blog posts. I watched movies and interviews. I just started educating myself as best as I could.
With that being said, I thought I would use my Friday Favorite Finds to share with you some of the very first sites and information that helped me start on a more healthy lifestyle.
Wow. I’ll be honest, when I first watched this documentary I was thinking ‘no way is our food system like this‘. Yet, when I started doing my own research, I quickly learned that Yes.. it is like this.
Food, Inc is a documentary film that looks at how large corporations have taken over all aspects of our food system. Growing things bigger, faster, and easier is where the money is at.. not necessarily where healthy is at.
If you haven’t had the chance to view this movie, I would definitely check it out. You can rent in Amazon or watch it on Netflix.
Her passion in taking on the food system and finding out what is being done to our food is inspiring to me. Robyn is the “Erin Brockovich” of the food world.
If you have a few minutes, watch her TEDx talk and stop by her web site.
Health and Wellness Bloggers
The internet is PACKED with so many wonderful bloggers and advocates for a healthy lifestyle, so picking some of my favorites to share with you is a little hard. I could list so many, but for your sake.. and for my typing fingers.. I’ll limit it to a few.
I love the simple, loving approach that Wellness Mama has. Her site is not only beautiful, but it’s packed with tons of great information.
From recipes for homemade remedies to helpful hints about having purchasing healthier items for your home, Wellness Mama is a great site to check out.
Another amazing web site, Holistic Squid has that cool California vibe going on.
From her site, I have found the Real Plans Meal Planning system that is amazing and other wonderful information that has helped me along the way.
I met Leah for the first time at ShiftCon last year and this lady is pretty darn awesome.
Not only does she have a kick butt web site that strives to educate her readers about our food system and healthy lifestyle, but she organizes and hosts an awesome conference, Shiftcon, to help connect eco-wellness companies and bloggers to make a bigger difference in our world.
There is SOOO much more information I could share with you, but it’s the weekend… so I’ll save it for another day.
I would love to hear about any ‘healthy lifestyle’ web sites or videos that you love? Leave me a comment and let me know so I can check them out for myself.
Hope you enjoyed this weeks Friday Favorite Finds..
Have a Healthy and Happy Weekend!
